  1.                         HAMLET (Condensed to three minutes)

  4.               (as sung by Michael Carthy to the tune Mason's Apron)

  6.         There was a king nodding in his garden all alone
  7.         When his brother in his ear poured a little bit of henbane
  8.         Stole his brother's crown and his money and his widow
  9.         But the dead king walked and got his son and said "Now listen kiddo,
  10.         I've been killed and it's your duty to take revenge on Claudius,
  11.         Kill him quick and clean and tell the nation what a fraud he is."
  12.         The kid says, "Right, I'll do it but I'll have to play it crafty,
  13.         So that no one will suspect me I'll kid on that I'm a dafty"
  14.  
  15.         So for all except Horatio, and he counts him as a friend,
  16.         Hamlet, that's the kid, he kids on he's round the bend
  17.         And because he's not yet willing for obligatory killing
  18.         He tries to make his uncle think he's tuppence off a shilling.
  19.         Takes a rise out of Polonius, treats poor Ophelia vile,
  20.         Tells Rosencranz and Guildenstern that Denmark's blooded bile
  21.         Till a troupe of travelling actors like seven eighty four
  22.         Arrive to do a special one night gig in Elsinore.

  24.         Hamlet, Hamlet, acting balmy
  25.         Hamlet, Hamlet, loves his mommy
  26.         Hamlet, Hamlet hesitating
  27.         He wonders if the ghost's a fake and that is why he's waiting
  28.  
  29.         So Hamlet wrote a scene for the players to enact
  30.         So Horatio and him could watch to see if Claudius cracked
  31.         The play was called "The Mousetrap," not the one that's running now,
  32.         And sure enough, the king walked out before the scene was through
  33.         So Hamlet's got the proof his uncle gave his dad the dose,
  34.         The only problem being now that Claudius knows he knows,
  35.         So while Hamlet tells his mother her new husband's not a fit man
  36.         Uncle Claude takes out a contract with the English king as hit man.
  37.  
  38.         Then when Hamlet killed Polonius, the concealed corpus delecti
  39.         Was the the king's excuse to send for an English hempen necktie
  40.         With Rosencranz and Guildenstern to make quite sure he got there
  41.         But Hamlet jumped the boat and put the finger straight on that pair.
  42.         When Laertes heard his dad was killed in the bedroom of the heiress
  43.         He came running back to Elsinore tout-suite hot foot from Paris
  44.         When Ophelia heard her dad's killed by the man she was to marry
  45.         After saying it with flowers she committed hari-kari.

  47.         Hamlet, Hamlet no messin'
  48.         Hamlet, Hamlet learned his lesson
  49.         Hamlet, Hamlet Yorick's crust
  50.         Convinced him all men good and bad at last must come to dust.
  51.  
  52.         Then Laertes lost his cool and was demanding retribution,
  53.         The king said keep your head and I'll supply you a solution
  54.         So the king arranged a swordfight for the interested parties
  55.         With a blunted sword for Hamlet and a sharp sword for Laertes
  56.         And to to make double sure (the old belt-and-braces line)
  57.         He fixed up a poisoned sword-tip and a poisoned cup of wine
  58.         The poisoned sword got Hamlet but Laertes went and fluffed it
  59.         Because he got stabbed himself and he confessed before he snuffed it.
  60.  
  61.         Then Hamlet's mummy drank the wine and as her face turned blue,
  62.         Hamlet said, "I think this king's a baddie through and through."
  63.         "Incestuous murderous damned Dane," he said to be precise
  64.         Then made up for hesitating once by killing Claudius twice.
  65.         He stabbed him with his knife and forced the wine between his lips
  66.         Then he said, "The rest is silence," and he cashed in all his chips.
  67.         They fired a volley over him that shook the topmost rafter
  68.         And then Fortinbras, knee-deep in Danes, lived happy ever after.
